A bleak life similar to her novels.. British writer Anne Perry has died at the age of 84

The death of British detective novelist Anne Perry, who was convicted as a teenager of killing the mother of her best friend, was absent, according to what was announced yesterday, Wednesday, by the French publishing house “10/18”.

The publishing house reported that Berry died at the age of 84 in Los Angeles. And the publishing house indicated in a statement that history will immortalize “the personalities that the writer dealt with and her prominent detective novels, and her interest in social issues.”

Bleak beginnings

The novelist, who published a large number of works during her career and sold more than 25 million books, succeeded in keeping her secret for decades.

In 1954, the writer was 15 years old and her name was Juliet Homeleigh, and she lived in New Zealand next to her best friend Pauline Parker. And when her parents – who were in the process of separation – informed her of the necessity of moving to live in South Africa, she hoped that her friend would move with her, but the latter’s mother, Honora Marie Parker, refused. So the two teenagers decided to kill the mother in order not to move away from each other, and they did so on an isolated road in Christchurch, New Zealand.

The killing of Honora Marie, who received 20 blows with a large stone, shocked the country. The two teenagers were imprisoned because they were too young to carry out the death penalty.

After 5 years, they were released, and Juliette Homelet changed her name to Ann Berry, worked for a while as an air hostess, and lived for a while in the United States, where she joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1968, then settled in Scotland.

She published her first book in 1979, launching her long career, and published a series of novels centering on the characters of Thomas Pitt and William Monck.

During the 1990s, the media revealed Berry’s real name and past, at a time when her story was covered in a movie.

Peter Jackson’s “Heavenly Creatures” was based on Perry’s bleak life story in the style of her Victorian detective novels. Actress Kate Winslet played the role of Perry in this movie, which was released in 1994.
